Why Support MDLO?

This past summer MDLO dedicated itself to service of music for young artists of our region and also for folks most in need. In June we launched our community outreach program Sharing Music, Sharing Love featuring Brad Clark and baritone Javier Arrey.  MDLO was grateful for the opportunity to take our  Sharing Music, Sharing Love Tour to three great locations in June and July.  We visited Mercy Medical Center in Baltimore, Children's National Medical Center in Washington, DC, and Rockville Assembly of God where many organizations from around Montgomery County joined together to share music, love, and food! Your support ensures we can continue this program this holiday season and in the future bringing together our community through music and human  connection.

Your contribution ensures we are able to continue providing employment and education to young artists through our Young Artist Institute and programs such as Sharing Music, Sharing Love which bring unique operatic performances to vulnerable populations who are underserved and in need.

The recently announced appointments of Louis Salemno as MDLO Music Director and William Stone as Head of Voice Faculty ensure that we are able to offer participants of our Young Artist Institute experienced coaching and vocal instruction. Due to the generosity of our funders and supporters like you, we were able to provide this program free of charge to the singers.

The largest endeavor of 2016 was our Maryland Lyric Opera Summer Vocal Competition 2016. We received 272 applications from some of the most talented young artist today and ended up 21 semi-finalists from whom our 9 semi-finalists were selected by our judging panels. We were able to provide hours of musical coaching as well as rehearsal time with our conductor and orchestra to our finalists. The finalists assisted in our High School Mentorship program where we welcomed 4 area high school students and offered them voice lessons, IPA classes, coaching, Q&A sessions with finalists, and a behind the scenes look at the life of high level opera singers and vocal competitions.

MDLO is a 501(c)(3) organization. Contributions to the Maryland Lyric Opera are tax deductible as allowed by law. Please see your tax advisor for details.*
